As we settle in nicely to spring, it’s time to drop the top on life and set yourself to cruise control so the good bits don’t pass you by. And we’ve got just the thing to get you in the groove. Joining us for a new exclusive mix and interview this week is Leipzig’s own PWNDTIAC. A connoisseur of good vibes, the German producer has made a big imprint over the past year with hit singles Hey Girl, The Beach, and Kickin’ In The Beat alongside Muneshine.

We caught up with him recently to hear a bit more about what inspires the project, and what he’s got in store for us in the future. He’s also put together a vibrant mixtape that’s sure to provide an ideal soundtrack for upcoming adventures or kick backs by the pool alike. Enjoy!

David Bowie – Arabia (Hade Remix)

Caveman Sound: Tell us about the mix you’ve put together — What’s the vibe?

PWNDTIAC: Hey Guys, the mix is very influenced by springtime over here in Germany. It contains some new stuff, like a new Laurence Guy release on Rose Records and a fantastic David Bowie Edit by Cologne’s Hade, and some of my all time favorites. So listen to it in the morning with a good cup of coffee and start with a smile.

CS: How has growing up in Germany, Leipzig specifically, shaped the kind of music you make?

PT: Well Leipzig is a cool city to live in, it still has lot of unexplored places and warehouses where you can party like it’s Berlin in the 90’s. But it will not stay like that unfortunately. I had some experience with these parties in my youth, but I feel like I was more raised by the internet than my city music–wise. Leipzig is still a techno city.

CS: Your tracks definitely have a bit of a retro feel, what draws you to those sounds in particular?

PT: Just loving the sound of the 80’s, I grew up with it on my mom’s car speakers. It’s the overall sound and feel that draws my attention to this decade. But I think I want to overcome my 80s cliché a bit, I’m much more diverse than just this one decade.

CS: Last year’s ‘The Beach’ was a big release for you, and you’ve put out a couple of really great singles in recent months as well — what does the future of PWNDTIAC look like?

PT: Yes, last year was really productive. Hope I can keep up with that, but I also prefer having quality over quantity. I recently did a big remix for a major act that will be out, and also I have a lot of unfinished demos for which I need some good singers – so if anyone with a decent voice is reading this, send me a msg :)

CS: Music is an essential part of travelling for us — do you have any favorites to listen to you’re on the go?

PT: As I’m travelling a lot, I always prepare with the Spotify offline function to explore new tracks for DJing or just listening to for pleasure. But to name some essentials I’d choose: SSIO’s 0,9 LP (German Rap), all LPs by Tame Impala and Ludovico Einaudi’s Elements LP

CS: Give us three tracks that never leave your bag for sets.

PT:
Todd Terje – Inspector Norse

Spirit Catcher – Final Call

PWNDTIAC – Hey Girl

CS: All time favorite film soundtrack?

PT: I generally love a lot of film soundtracks so it’s hard to choose an all time favorite, but I’d say Hans Zimmer’s Interstellar OST! I recently listened to it on an night flight above Europe — mental experience.

CS: Who are some fellow acts that you’re loving at the moment?

PT: Loframes (Franck is going crazy), Tobtok (he’s taking over the world – mental) and Martin Hayes (my disco buddy from Leipzig…check his latest stuff).

CS: Your music is best listened to while…

PT: Just put that PWNDTIAC track on a cassette for your walkman, lay down on a deck chair next to your pool and enjoy a cold soda.

CS: We touched on future plans a bit already, but what else do you have coming up for the summer and beyond?

PT: I have several gigs coming up in Germany, but I would love to travel a lot more with my music. I also want to release a new EP, hopefully coming in the second half of the year – just pushing PWNDTIAC more and more!
